Position Summary

A critical element of BG Group's long term resourcing strategy is to recruit high potential graduates in key disciplines from around the world and train them through BG Groups International Graduate Development Programme (IGDP); Petroleum Engineering is one key discipline.

On successful completion of the two year Programme the graduates will take on a substantive role in Petroleum Engineering with BG Group. This cadre of graduate talent will form one of the key sources of succession for key company positions both managerial and technical.

Key elements of the IGDP are:

Work Placements - 4 x 6 month Assignments are the primary learning element of the IGDP. These give the graduate work experience with accountability from day one. A condition of the IGDP is that at least one of these placements is outside the home country of the graduate.

Technical Training - each of the functional disciplines have a programme of training which is required to build technical competency in their relevant function. Technical training is guided by the Petro Skills Competency Development Tool (CDT) and the Petroleum Engineering Training Course Curriculum.

Behavioural Development - all graduates attend the two key group development events: Graduate Induction is a two week event which takes place when the graduates join the programme and gives them an overview of the company including the business model, strategy, and key processes and gives them the opportunity to network with peers and functional managers. Graduate Development week takes place at the beginning of the second year of the programme and is aimed at developing career management skills amongst the graduates. In addition there are ad hoc core curriculum courses which the graduate can undertake to develop specific skills.

Performance Management graduate performance is carefully tracked to ensure performance is on target and graduate needs are being met. All graduates are assigned a mentor to enable them to discuss any issues they may have.

Key Accountabilities
The core accountability for all graduates on the IGDP is to acquire the necessary skills, experience and behaviours to enable them to take on a substantive role at the end of the training period.

Each placement will have specific objectives which will be determined by the graduate's line manager at the beginning of each placement. These objectives will be a combination of specific learning objectives (e.g. acquire certain skills / knowledge), operational objectives (e.g. deliver XYZ report) or project objectives (complete project X by date). The objectives will be reviewed at the end of each placement and an annual performance review will take place taking account of performance on each of the previous placements.

Areas of training may include:

Fluid Properties, Field Development, Reservoir Rock Properties,Volumetric Analysis & Material Balance Analysis, Reservoir Management, Reserves Determinations, Reservoir Simulation for Performance & Production Forecasting, Reservoir Heterogeneity & Characterization, Analytical Performance Analysis of Reservoir mechanisms, Fluid Flow & Well Productivity Analysis, Production Geology, Geosciences for Engineers, Foundations of PP, Well Test Design & Analysis, Completions and Workovers, Production Operations 1, Artificial Lift Systems, Down hole Remediation Practices of Mature Wells, Basic Petroleum Economics, Well Log Interpretation, Production Analysis & Permanent Down hole Gauges, Foundation Production Log Analysis, Intro to MEPO, Pres Tran Analysis, Special Core Analysis, Advanced PVT & EOS Fluid, Production Operations, Unconventional Gas Coal Seam Gas,Unconventional Gas Shale Gas.

Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute
Anyone joining the IGDP as a Petroleum Engineer must be a university graduate with a degree (or equivalent) relevant to the Petroleum Engineering functions. In several functions a post graduate degree will also be required. All graduates offered places on the IGDP will have passed through a consistent graduate assessment centre unless they have already worked for the company for at least 6 months.

All graduates joining the IGDP need to be fluent in English. In very exceptional cases a candidate may be accepted if they have exceptional technical and behavioural attributes but require a limited degree of English language training.

Graduates are expected to be internationally mobile. All graduates must be capable of deploying for at least 1 x 6 month assignment at some stage during the 2 years.

The graduate will be required to build their internal networks as widely as possible amongst peers, functional colleagues (particularly during BG Advance assignments) and colleagues in different departments. They are likely to have exposure to senior management as part of their development. It is unlikely there will be significant external interaction though they may well be asked to assist in recruitment of new graduates into their function.

All employees have authority and influence over HSSE issues.

All employees have authority in influencing change on HSSE issues, e.g. via intervention.
