Santos Basin Extension Well a Success for Petrobras

Petrobras announced Monday it has completed drilling extension exploratory well 3-BRSA-1032-RJS (3-RJS-697), located in the Iara Evaluation Area, in the pre-salt of Santos Basin.
The well is 139 miles (223 kilometers) off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, some 6 miles (9 kilometers) from the discovery well, at a water depth of 7,054 feet (2,150 meters).

The well, informally known as Iara Oeste, is the third well drilled in the Discovery Evaluation Plan 1-BRSA-618 (Iara) and reached the total depth of 19,849 feet (6,050 meters).

The result was confirmed through good quality oil samples ranging from 21º and 26º API in carbonate reservoirs of the pre-salt, as of 17,815 feet (5,430 meters) in depth, demonstrate the high potential of the pre-salt reservoirs of this area.

The consortium will advance the activities set forth in the Evaluation Plan approved by the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP), including formation tests to evaluate the productivity of the reservoir.

Petrobras is the operator of the consortium (65%), in partnership with BG Group (25%) and Galp Energia (10%).
