Statoil to Investigate Gas Leak Incident on North Sea Platform

STOCKHOLM - Norwegian oil and gas major Statoil ASA said Tuesday it will launch an investigation after a gas leak occurred on the Heimdal platform in the North Sea Saturday.

No one was injured in the incident, which Statoil said was serious and provisionally classified as "Red 1". The leak will also be investigated by Norway's Petroleum Safety Authority.

Statoil said the 98 people on the platform boarded lifeboats following the incident, but returned to their normal tasks later the same day.
